“Cake Smash” sessions have become a traditional photo opportunity for those precious 1st birthdays, and I’m so happy to offer them in my Lake Dallas studio, which serves Denton, Highland Village, Little Elm, Frisco, and the surrounding North Texas area. We give babies their very own custom cake, let them smash into it however they want, and capture every candid reaction along the way.

When you book your session, the first thing we will do is establish a theme. I stylize each set to fit whatever theme you pick whether it be a favorite show or team, a classic birthday theme, or even the trendy boho look. Take a look at my portfolio for ideas, and let your imagination run wild! The options are limitless. As part of the package, I provide a cake from Cake House Bakery, decorated to match the theme. If your little one has any dietary restrictions or allergies, we can accommodate accordingly.

Cake Smashes are one of my favorite studio sessions because every baby’s unique reactions are priceless. If you want to have a smashing cake smash session, here are a few ways to prepare:
Let your baby try cake beforehand so they know what they’re getting into (literally!). This step is super important! Babies who have never had cake are more likely to just stare at it or cry in confusion. The ones who know what’s underneath all the pretty decorations are the ones who really get down and dirty. You can even show your baby videos of other cake smashes so they know what to expect.
For extra encouragement, you can bring your little one’s favorite snacks, such as yogurt puffs. We can hide them in the cake to encourage him to dig in.
Time your session for success. Work around naptime. Make sure baby is a little hungry going into the session. We can work with a crying baby and get some memorable photos, but I think we can all agree that a happy baby is more pleasant for everyone involved.
On that note, bring a favorite toy or playlist to keep the session fun and upbeat and create a more familiar environment.
Feel free to bring separate outfits for the pre-cake portraits and the cake smash portraits. You can also ask to see the outfits I have available.
Prepare for and embrace the mess. Bring some extra wipes, a towel, and even a change of clothes for yourself.
Speaking of messes, you can add on a “Splash Session” to get your little one cleaned up and get more adorable photos! Babies who don’t like the cake part almost always love the bath, so this doubles your chances of getting a happy, smiling shot.
